You are now officially alumni of Flushing Christian School.  We will remember you in our prayers – do keep in touch!

CHANGES IN STAFF:  Mr. Daniel Herrera, Ms. Kirsten Baker and Ms. Chidi Baker will be leaving at the end of the school year.  We are grateful for their service and wish them well in their future endeavors!
 
AWARDS ASSEMBLY for grades 1-7 will be held tomorrow, Tuesday,
June 18th at 9:00 AM:  Student accomplishments will be acknowledged and commended. All are welcome to attend! 
 
KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION @ 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19th.
 
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR ALL STUDENTS:  Wednesday, June 19th.  Dismissal will be at the regular time
 
REPORT CARDS AND TERRA NOVA SCORES will be mailed home at the end of June.  Please note that reports cards cannot be released if there are any outstanding financial obligations, missing textbooks or absence notes.
 
REGISTRATION - Registration and General Fees will rise after June 30.  Complete your registration now to avoid the increased rates.
 
SCHOOL ABSENCE REPORT – If your student has outstanding absence notes, a form was sent home to you last week.  Please make sure to complete and sign this school absence report.  The Department of Health requires the school to keep these notes on file. If the absence reports are not returned to the school, report cards will be withheld.
 
IMPORTANT -  PARENTS OF CURRENT 6TH & 7TH GRADE STUDENTS
HIGH SCHOOL ADMISSION WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 8TH GRADE IN THE FALL –
The NYC Department of Education will be having High School Admission Family Workshops throughout the borough this month of June.  A flyer with all the specific details is attached.  The workshop for families who live in Queens will be held on Thursday, July 19, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Francis Lewis High School, 58-20 Utopia Parkway, Fresh Meadows NY 11365. 
 
Parents of our current 7th graders are urged to register and attend a workshop.  Parents of current 6th graders are encouraged to attend to familiarize themselves with the procedure.
 
NOTE TO 7TH GRADE PARENTS:  If your student is planning to take the Specialized High School Test in the fall, it is important to enroll in a Test Prep Course this summer.  The cut-off scores are high and only those students who achieve the highest scores will be accepted to these schools.  Feel free to call the school for more information.

PTFA NEWS
What a year it has been!  From the bottom of our hearts, the P.T.F.A. officers want to thank every family that has supported us throughout the 2018-2019 year.  From the volunteers who came to help at our lunches to the many who participated in our fundraisers--we are grateful – we could not do this without you!
We want to wish all of our F.C.S. families a fun and blessed summer.  We cannot wait to see what God has in store for the P.T.F.A. in the 2019-2020 school year! Thank you for allowing us to serve your children.

It is available to all current families and alumni AT NO COST TO YOU.  Right Now Media will provide safe viewing for your family.  Enjoy this over the summer months and throughout the next school year!  Look for an email from them today to set up your account.

JOGATHON/FIELD DAY - STUDENTS RAISED OVER $22,642.15.
Thank you for your participation.  It means so much to us!
First, Second and Grand Prize Winners will be announced tomorrow at morning line-up.
 
 
GRADUATION    Eighth grade graduation is this Friday, June 14th at First Presbyterian Church (around the corner from the school) at 150-20 Barclay Avenue.  The ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM.
 
IMPORTANT -  PARENTS OF CURRENT 6TH & 7TH GRADE STUDENTS

THE ANNUAL CORPORATION MEETING will be held tonight, Monday, June 10th at 7:30 PM in the all-purpose room.  You are welcome to join us.  The Board of Trustees will be on hand to report on the state of the school and answer any questions you may have
 
REPORT CARDS will be mailed home at the end of June with Terra Nova Test results.
If there are any outstanding financial obligations report cards will be withheld until payment is received.

Hope Everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend!  We owe a debt of gratitude to those who gave their lives for our freedom.
 
CONGRATULATIONS TO FLUSHING CHRISTIAN SCHOOL TEAM NAVIGATORS WINNING 1st PLACE IN THE NATGEO COMPETITION IN WASHINGTON DC!   FCS Team Navigators Victor, Alex, Jeremiah and Natanel, under the leadership of Ms. Nelson and Mrs. Rozic.  To God be the glory!
 
SCHOOL  SPIRIT WEEK - Show your school spirit each day this week – leading up to Jogathon/Field Day when everyone will wear FCS Eagles Tee Shirts on Friday, May 31st. We look forward to seeing parents and friends at Kissena Park (entrance at 164th Street and Metcalf Avenue).  Don’t forget to create a page or use sponsor sheets to help raise funds for school!

School Spirit Eagles Tee SHIRT on sale for $10.00 – just in time for Field Day/Jog-a-Thon.  All students must wear the FCS Red T-Shirt for Field Day for school spirit but more importantly, so that our students are easily recognizable when they are participating in field day at Kissena Park.
 
FIELD DAY this Friday, May 31st at 9:30 AM at Kissena Park – Entrance at 164th St. & Metcalf St.  Parents – Remember to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on.   
 
MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER-SCHOOL RECREATION   - This Tuesday & Thursday for those who have registered and maintain a B+ Conduct Grade.  Please note that the pick-up time is 4:30 PM Sharp.
KRISPY KREME FUNDRAISER:  Last Chance to help us raise some dough!   A dozen original glazed or chocolate glazed Krispy Kreme donuts for just $10! Order by May 31st.   Put in your orders for your friends, families,
neighbors, and churches.  This fundraiser directly benefits students at FCS. 
 
 
FINALS FOR GRADES 6-8 will begin on Monday, June 10th.  Students will be given review sheets to help them prepare no later than Wednesday, May 30th.  Teachers will begin reviewing in class next week.
 
INTRODUCING HOME AND SCHOOL CONNECTION –attached.  This publication is being sent home as a courtesy for you, our busy families to help you stay connected with your student and our school.  These simple tips really make a difference!
 
THE ANNUAL CORPORATION MEETING will be held on Monday, June 10th at 7:30 PM.  You are welcome to join us. The board of trustees will report on the state of the school.  If you wish to vote for trustees whose terms are up for renewal, kindly complete the attached FCS Corporation application.
 
AWARDS ASSEMBLY GRADES 1-7 - Tuesday, June 18 @ 9:00 AM. 
 
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Students are permitted to wear shorts for Physical Education on days when the temperature is 80 degrees or above. However they must wear their sweat pants over them upon arrival if the temperature is below 80 degrees.  Please follow the uniform policy and do not allow you student to wear shorts on cool days.   Parents, please send water to school with your child on the days that they have P.E. class. The weather is getting warmer and your child needs to stay hydrated.

Sponsor sheets are are available for those who choose face-to- face fund raising or would prefer to send letters to friends and family. We will gladly print and mail letters for you- just let us know how many you need!
