Many thanks to our wonderful team of parents who prepared and served a hot meal for our students last week:   Ms. Jennifer Hernandez; Ms. Nimisha Baball; Ms. Victoria Constanza; and Ms. Julie Sabato.  The food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by all!
 
FCS FALL FESTIVAL - SAVE THE DATE. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd.
Fun family time for all!  Carnival Games, Hot Dogs, Prizes, Puppet Show -
Volunteers are needed to run games, serve hot dogs, help with prize tables.

PROGRESS REPORTS will go home Wednesday, October 16th.  All middle school students will receive a progress report.  Students in elementary grades (K-4) will only receive a progress report if they are falling below grade expectations in any given subject. 
 
CHICKEN NUGGET LUNCH – The PTFA will be having the first luncheon of the year to be held on this Friday, October  18th.  The deadline to place an order is tomorrow,  Wednesday, October 16th.  Order Forms were sent home last Monday.
 
SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED: on Thursday, October 24th and Friday, October 25th for staff development.
Operation Christmas Child:  FCS will participate in Operation Christmas Child.  We will be collecting shoe boxes with school supplies, useful items, toys and a gospel message to send to children all over the world for the purpose of evangelism and sharing the love of Christ.  Elementary school (K-5) mission donations will be used to cover the shipping costs - $9.00 per box - during the months of October and November.  So far students have donated $40.06. 
 
Please see attached, as well as a hard copy being sent home today. Boxes will be provided by FCS upon request.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS:  Starting October 15th boys are required to wear ties when wearing button down shirt; this does not apply when wearing a polo.  Please remember students are required to be in uniform each day unless they have a NUT Card.  Hoodies may not be worn during the school day and sneakers are for gym days only.

PTFA
SCHOOL STORES.COM – PTFA is launching a new fundraiser in partnership with School Stores.com.  Information packets will be sent home on October 21st.  FCS family and friends that use this site to shop at merchants such as Macy’s, Kohl’s, etc. will generate donations for the school.  Students will earn prizes for family participation.
 
MOMS IN TOUCH PRAYER GROUP: meets each Tuesday @ 8:30 AM at the school.   Please come out and join us for prayer.
 
BOX TOPS   due Tuesday, October 15th. Thank you to all who have sent them in. Please submit them as soon as possible so that we can have them sent before the deadline of November 1st.

APPLEBEE’S BREAKFAST THIS SATURDAY!!
Thank you for purchasing tickets. If you have not purchased tickets and would still like to, please send your request to the office by Wednesday, October 2nd.  Please note tickets must be purchased in advance.  They will not be sold on site.
Guests: Please do not arrive before 8:00 AM
Volunteers: Please arrive by 7:45 am.

A GIFT BASKET SILENT AUCTION WILL BE HELD AT THE APPLEBEE'S FUNDRAISER -   Thank you all for donating items for your children's class themes!  This year in addition to beautiful themed baskets, we will auction:

  • World Ice Arena (Birthday Package for 15, $345 value)
  • Challenge Escape Rooms (Admission for a group of 10, $280 value)

TAQUITO SALE ON TUESDAY!  $2.00 each.  One day only.  Proceeds will benefit the Spruce Lake Trip for 7th and 8th Grade and our Tech Department.
 
LIMITED PARKING and traffic jams are part of life in Queens.  We ask your kind cooperation when dropping children off or picking them up in order to keep our students safe and maintain a good testimony to our neighbors.
Please do not use the church parking lot.
Please do not block traffic or double park when dropping off or picking up students.
If you arrive at dismissal time and your student is not yet downstairs, please do not block the road.  Kindly let Mrs. Pena know that you are here and circle the block.  She will have your student waiting for you when you return.
 
PTFA HOT LUNCH – Tuesday, October 8th.  The PTFA will be having a Taco Tuesday for $5.00.  A pre-order form was sent home last week.  Also, see attached order form.  Orders are due by this Wednesday.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY:   Wednesday, October 9th.     
No NUT cards on this day. Student must wear their full school uniform.  Students that have gym on this day (2nd, 4th, 8th Grades) must come to school in their school uniform. Students should bring their gym uniform with them and change after photos are taken.
8th Grade will take pictures in uniform and caps & gowns.
 
SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED: on Monday, October 14th for Columbus Day and Thursday and Friday, October 24th and 25th for Staff Development.

PTFA MEETING - The first meeting will be held this  Thursday, October 3rd at 7:30 pm.  You may bring your student with you.  The students will get to enjoy a movie and popcorn in the room directly across the hall from the meeting.  Middle school students will supervise for service credit. We hope that all of our families will join the PTFA and participate in making this a great school year.  N.U.T cards (no uniform today) will be given to all students whose parents attend.  There will be coffee and light refreshments for parents.
 
PTFA Dues - The sign-up forms were sent in the red folders. Please send in your PTFA dues. These funds provide the PTFA the ability to help our school in ways needed. Your dues are put to good use and we thank you for becoming members of the PTFA.

HIGH SCHOOL MEETING – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th @7:30 PM.    PARENTS OF 8TH GRADE STUDENTS ATTENDANCE REQUIRED (whether your child will be applying for public or private).  Parents of 7th grade students are invited to attend but not required.

APPLEBEES FLAPJACK FUNDRAISER – Saturday, October 5th from 8:00 – 10:00 AM in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center.  Tickets are $11.00 per child/person.  Breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, coffee and juice.  Tickets must be purchased in advance.    See attached as well as an order form will be sent home today.   
                                                                  
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED.    If you are willing and able to volunteer, please let us know.  We need servers, bussers, and seaters.  Please indicate your availability when ordering your tickets or email PTFA@fcsnyc.org.  See attached as well as an order form will be sent home today.

HIGH SCHOOL FAIRS
Saturday, Sept. 21st and Sunday, September 22nd

PIZZA FRIDAYS will begin this Friday, September 20th.  Your child must bring in money on Wednesday September 18th in order to get pizza.  Each week, money is due on Wednesday or you may pay for several weeks in advance, if you wish.   Price is the same: slice $2.50, juice 50¢
 
HIGH SCHOOL MEETING – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th @7:30 PM.    PARENTS OF 8TH GRADE STUDENTS MUST ATTEND (whether your child will be applying for public or private).  PARENTS OF 7TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE WELCOME.

 

PARENT ORIENTATION -   We hope that the information you received last Monday evening will help you and your children get off to a good start.  If you were unable to attend, you should have received information from your child’s teacher last week.  Please call the office if you did not receive this information.  

 
PERMISSION SLIPS/BLUE AND WHITE CARDS: Permission slips and Student Record Cards were sent home the first week of school. Please return them if you have not done so. 
 
SCHOOL PHOTO DAY: Wednesday, October 9th.  All students should come to school dressed in uniform.  Students who have gym on this day will be permitted to change into their gym uniform after photos are taken.  No NUT cards please.
 
A GIFT BASKET SILENT AUCTION WILL BE HELD AT THE APPLEBEE'S FUNDRAISER on Saturday, October 5th
Tell your friends and family and come prepared to shop! Themed gift baskets you may love include: Date Night, Out and About, Baby and Me, All Natural (essential oils)  and much more!  We ask all students to please participate! Every student who contributes at least one item to their class's themed gift basket by this Wednesday, September 18th will have their names entered into a raffle to receive a Special Prize.  The whole class that contributes items will receive an ice cream party (Elementary) and a NUT Cards (Middle School).  We thank you so much for your donations and for supporting this important fundraiser. 
 
REMINDER:  LATE PICK-UP:  Students waiting for parent pick up after 2:55 PM will be placed in the After School Program.  The fee for ASP is $13 per hour.
