Congratulations to our FCS Volleyball Team on winning 3rd Place in the Volleyball Tournament. The games were exciting and our athletes played well!
 
BE SURE TO JOIN US FOR OUR CHRISTMAS CONCERT   this Thursday, December 14th at
7:15 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Flushing located around the corner from the school at 150-20 Barclay Avenue. Our program is entitled “The Tale of Three Trees & More!”  Come celebrate the true meaning of Christmas!  Students must arrive by 6:45.  Seating is very limited; immediate family only please.
 
CHRISTMAS CONCERT MEMO please read carefully the e-mail and paper copy that is being resent home today for important information on the Christmas Concert this Thursday, December 14th.
 
PROGRESS REPORTS – Were sent home last Wednesday.  Please acknowledge receipt to your child’s teacher ASAP if you have not already done so.
 
SPORTS:  Athletes must return their sports uniforms to Mr. Herrera by tomorrow.
 
SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS VACATION Friday, December 22nd – Tuesday, January 2nd.     School will reopen on Wednesday, January 3rd.
 
ALL SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CHAPEL – Thursday, December 21st at 8:15 AM.  Parents are always welcome to attend. 
 
SAVE THE DATE
**OPEN HOUSE SHOWCASE** AND RE-ENROLLMENT DAY 
SATURDAY, JANUARY 20th from 10 A.M. – 12:00 Noon
Volunteers are needed to help with continental breakfast, babysitting and greeting prospective families.  Mark your calendar for this important event.  Details will follow after the New Year.
Flyers (English, Chinese and Korean) are available to pick up in the school office for you to share them with family and friends.

PROGRESS REPORTS WILL GO HOME ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6.  All middle school students will receive a progress report.  Elementary students (K-4) will only receive a progress report if grades are falling below 75%.

WALK-IN WEDNESDAY - Educational Success Consultations and building tours will be given on Wednesday, December 6th at 9:30 and 12:30.  If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling a student, kindly let them know!
 
BAKE SALEHonors club will have a bake sale on Wednesday, December 6th and Thursday, December 7th.
 
MISSIONS:  Donations for the months of November and December were designated to Samaritan’s Purse.  Shipping for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes was completely paid for by your generous donations!  Thank you so much!
 
CHRISTMAS CONCERT NEXT THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14th AT 7:15 PM. at First Presbyterian Church 150-20 Barclay Avenue.  Our Christmas concert is very well attended.  We are trying to accommodate all families at the concert by providing extra seating.  Kindly hang up coats in the vestibule of the church or leave them rolled up under the seat in front of you to make room for everyone.  We look forward to seeing you!  PLEASE SEE THE LETTER BEING SENT HOME TODAY (ALSO, EMAILED LAST WEDNESDAY) WHICH CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE CONCERT AND YOUR STUDENT.

REPORT CARDS should all have been returned to school by now.  If you have not signed and returned your student’s report card, please do so today.
 
THE CHRISTMAS CONCERT - Please mark the date on your calendar, Thursday, December 14th at 7:15 PM at First Presbyterian Church.  Students must arrive at 6:45PM.  Concert preparation is a large portion of your student’s music grade; the concert is a culminating activity, therefore, all students are required to attend.  Seating is limited; kindly limit your party to immediate family. A LETTER WILL BE SENT HOME SHORTLY WITH MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.

Thanksgiving Luncheon  - Thank you to the PTFA Officers and to all the parents that served on Friday! Everyone had a great time and the food was delicious.  We greatly appreciate all of you!

 

VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK – Tuesday: Practice from 2:30PM-5:30 PM Sharp!
 
CONGRATULATIONS to:  Victoria Alvarez, Elijah Bellmon, Matthew Carson, Guilia Strati, David Yu, Immanuel Chuks-Okoh and Serena SimsonThese students qualified for the FCS Honors Club for the first marking period!  These students will enjoy a free Chinese lunch at school during the month of December.
 
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD:  We received 61 beautiful boxes.  Shoeboxes are distributed to over 95 countries.  Samaritan’s Purse includes Christian literature in each box sharing the love of Christ and the joy and hope of the season with children in troubled countries.   Many thanks to the students who helped pack boxes and to all who gave generous contributions!
 
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE FOR PE – Mr. Herrera will be available to do parent/teacher conference for PE and 8th grade Bible today, Monday, November 20th between 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.  If you are not available at this time and you would like to meet with him, kindly call the office to schedule an appointment.
 
SCHOOL PHOTOS:   Photos went home on November 6th.  Proofs and monies were due last Monday, November 13th.  Proofs need to be signed and returned even of you are NOT making a purchase. 
 
 
 
ALL SCHOOL THANKSGIVING CHAPEL –Wednesday morning, November 22nd at 8:15 AM.  Parents are invited to attend.
 
AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM – there will be After School Program next door ONLY for the students who are registered with First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 22nd.
 
SCHOOL CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING Thursday & Friday November 23rd and 24th
 
HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS are due on Friday, December 1.  We recommend that you hand them in early; before Thanksgiving is preferable.  If you have questions or concerns, you may call the school to speak with Mrs. Blatt or Ms. Kim.

Operation Christmas Child:  PACKING PARTY TOMORROW, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14  from 2:30 – 4:00 FOR GRADES 4-8   Students wishing to attend will need to bring in the permission slip that was sent home two weeks ago.   
 
TACQUITO SALE  - Wednesday, November 15th.  Taquitos are $2.00 each
 
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES are scheduled for this Thursday, NOVEMBER 16 - Report cards will be given out at that time.  P/T conferences are a great opportunity to strengthen the home and school partnership. To help prepare for the conference, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire that was sent home with your child(ren) last week and return it to school by Wednesday.
 
Dismissal Time: Students must be registered for ASP with First Presbyterian Church so they will have a place to go if parents are late. We do not have a supervisory staff after 2:40.   Students will be picked up and cared for in the ASP right next door to the school.  The cost is minimal and you will have peace of mind knowing that your child is safe while you are delayed.
 
Thanksgiving Luncheon is taking place this Friday, November 17th.  ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY Tuesday, November 14th.  If you are able to help serve, please return the form that went home last week as soon as possible or call the school office to let us know.

  • TERRA NOVA STUDENT REPORTS:  We have received the Terra Nova Individual Student Reports from the test students took last spring.
  • PHOTO PROOFS: Please return the form by Monday, November 13th whether you decide to purchase the photo or not.
  • THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON ORDER FORM: the luncheon will be held on Friday, November 17th.  If you are able to help serve, please indicate it on the order form. Thank you!
  • A QUESTIONNAIRE is being sent home today to help you get the most out of your Parent/Teacher conference.  Please return it to your student’s teacher by next Tuesday.  Remember to schedule your conference, if you have not already done so. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday!

THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS FOR HELPING AT THE FRIDAY LUNCHEON!   We appreciate everyone who prepared, served and helped with the spaghetti lunch on Friday.  Without you we could not provide this enjoyable event for the children.  Thank you so much!

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY TOMORROW: Tuesday, October 17th.    No NUT cards on this day. Student must wear their full school uniformStudents that have gym on this day (2nd, 4th and 5th ) must come to school in their school uniform. Those Students should bring their gym uniform with them and change after photos are taken.
 
SPAGHETTI  LUNCHEON –  The PTFA will be having the first luncheon of the year to be held on this Friday, October  20th  The deadline to place an order is Wednesday, October 18th.  Order Forms were sent home last Wednesday.

Updates on Mrs. Adams – Many of you have inquired about Mrs. Adams.  I am happy to report that she came in today for a few hours and she will here intermittently as she receives treatments to bring her back to full health.  She thanks you for your prayers and sends her love to everyone!  Please continue to pray for her.

Applebee’s Breakfast: Thank You to all of the families, friends, teachers and staff that supported the breakfast on Saturday!  Special thanks to the PTFA and to all of the volunteers who served. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and good food. The silent auction raised $1464.00Thank you for supporting our school!

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM – FCS will no longer offer after school care after Friday, October 6.  The FCS After School Program is merging with the First Pres After School Program (located next door at Circle of Friends).  You must register your student immediately even if you only need after school care sporadically.  Please read the important attachments for additional information. 
 
 
MISSIONS:  Donations for the month of September in the amount of $219.04 will be sent to Samaritan’s Purse to benefit the victims of the hurricanes in Texas and Puerto Rico.
 
 
VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE for boys and girls will be held this Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  Your child must be picked up no later than 5:30!
 
Walk in Wednesday:  scheduled for Wednesday, October 4th.  Educational Success Consultations and building tours will be given at 9:30 and 12:30.  If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling a student, kindly let them know about this opportunity.
 
SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED: on Monday, October 9th for Columbus Day and Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th for staff development.
 
SCHOOL PHOTO DAY: Tuesday, October 17th.    No NUT cards on this day.

PTFA MEETING: The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 3th at 7:00 p.m. in the all-purpose room.  We hope that all of our families will join the PTFA and participate in making this a great school. NUT (no uniform today) cards will be given to all students whose parents attend.

What a year it has been! From the bottom of our hearts, the P.T.F.A. officers want to thank every family that has supported us throughout the 2016-2017 year. GRADUATION  Eighth grade graduation is this Friday, June 16  at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church (around the corner from the school) at 150-20 Barclay Avenue.
 
FINALS FOR GRADES 6-8 began today.  Please help your student to eat breakfast and get a good night’s rest to help them do their best.
 
NO PIZZA this Friday due to 8th grade graduation. Please make sure your child brings lunch to school
 
FAREWELL TO MRS. PERKOWSKY – after 9 years of service, Mrs. Perkowsky will be leaving FCS at the end of the school year.  We wish her all the best and know that you do too.  If you would like to stop by, the awards assembly and the last day of school are perfect times to share your prayers and good wishes.

FIELD DAY was a wonderful day of fun, fellowship and fund raising.  Many thanks to everyone who cooked hot dogs, served lunch, supervised activities and cheered for our students!  We appreciate you very much.  Our students raised over $20,000.00 this year.  Thank you for your participation.

THE ANNUAL CORPORATION MEETING will be held tonight - Monday, June 5 at 7:30 PM in the all-purpose room. You are welcome to join us. The Board of Trustees will report on the state of the school.

It is with a mixture of joy and sadness that we announce the retirement of Mr. George Austin in June after 15 years of faithful service to Flushing Christian School.  In accordance with his usual manner of dedicated Christian service, he will join us briefly in September to insure a smooth transition with the teacher who will assume his position.  I know your love & prayers will go with him as do ours.
TERRA NOVA TESTS:    Grades K-4 will be this week, Monday through Friday, May 1-5.

NACHO SALE TOMORROW! Proceeds will benefit the senior field trip.

Kindergarten Roundup is an event being held tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28th for new kindergarten parents and students. Prospective parents can meet each other, and our kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Sager. They will participate in an interactive lesson with their child.  If you know anyone that might be interested, please invite them!

DISMISSAL - Parents who have a student in the elementary school and the middle school may pick up both children at 2:30 in order to decrease wait time outside the building.  We will gladly keep your younger child in the classroom from 2:20 until 2:30 when both students can be released into your care.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT Thank you for attending the FCS celebration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus and thank you for giving so freely to the school.  Your generous offering amounted to $2,739; the matching gift brought the total to $5,478!   May the Lord richly bless you for sharing with open hearts and hands.
 
CONGRATULATIONS EAGLES!!  The FCS Eagles took home 1st and 3rd Place trophies from the tournament last Tuesday. Their hard work and team play paid off in a big way. We owe a debt of gratitude to the parents who drove to the games and supported the team throughout the season. We could not have done this without you!  Parents, please have your child return his/her uniform tomorrow. Do not wash them, we will send them to the cleaners.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD:  We received 13 beautiful boxes.  Shoeboxes are distributed to over 95 countries.  Samaritan’s Purse includes Christian literature in each box sharing the love of Christ and the joy and hope of the season with children in troubled countries.

Beginning on Wednesday, November 30 we will have an after school youth group program for grades 6-8 sponsored by Young Life New York.  They will meet in the all-purpose room from 3:00 - 5:00 on Wednesday afternoons.  Young Life was founded in 1941 and is staffed by Christians with a desire to introduce adolescents to Christ and help them grow in their faith.  All students in grades 6-8 are welcome to attend.   Kindly complete the attached permission slip if you would like your student to participate,
 
The Christmas Concert is a little more than one month away!  Please mark the date on your calendar, Thursday, December 15 at 7:15 PM.  Students are required to attend.  More details will follow shortly

Applebee’s Breakfast: Thank You to all of the families, friends, teachers and staff that supported the breakfast on Saturday!  Special thanks to the PTFA and to all of the volunteers who served. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and good food. The silent auction raised $2045 which will go towards the purchase of the VEXIQ Robotics Program. Thank you for supporting our school!

CLASSROOMS:  Now that the first days of school are passed, we request that parents refrain from accompanying students to the classroom in the morning.  If you need to speak with your student's teacher before or after school, please stop by the office first and ask Mrs. Adams to announce you. Thank you for your cooperation.
 
UNIFORMS - All students in grade 1-8 should be in uniform. Each family should purchase a white button down shirt from the uniform company so the student has one for concerts and other special events.  Students may wear sneakers only during gym class. A GIFT BASKET SILENT AUCTION WILL BE HELD AT THE APPLEBEE'S FUNDRAISER Tell your friends and family and come prepared to shop! Themed gift baskets you may love include: Cook's Delight, Pampered Pooch, Arts & Crafts, Movie Night, Harvest Home, and much more! Proceeds will go towards purchasing classroom materials for our new VEXIQ Robotics Program in 2nd and 3rd grade. We ask all students to please participate! IMPORTANT DATES AND UPDATES
 
ORIENTATION MEETING will be held this evening, September 12th at 7:30 PM.
It is extremely important for each family to be represented at this meeting, as teachers will share their plans and expectations for this school year.  K-4 parents will meet with the child’s teacher in the classroom.  You may go directly to the classroom upon arrival.  A directory will be posted to assist you.  Parents of middle school students (grades 5-8) will meet in the auditorium.  The middle school teachers will share briefly from their syllabus  High School directories will be available for parents of 7th and 8th grade students.
 
BOYS & GIRLS VOLLEYBALL – There will be a Team Meeting for the Flushing Christian School (FCS) Eagle Volleyball Team this Thursday, September 15th at 2:30 PM
Please bring your PERMISSION SLIPS (You will not be allowed to attend if it is not signed.)  Practice & Meetings are completed at 5:30 PM.
 
HIGH SCHOOL MEETING – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th @7:30 PM.  PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE.  This meeting has been rescheduled due to a Guidance Counselors’ meeting that Ms. Kim and Mrs. Blatt have been asked to attend on Wednesday.  PARENTS OF 8TH GRADE STUDENTS MUST ATTEND.  PARENTS OF 7TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE WELCOME
 
MCGOLDRICK COMMUNITY LIBRARY located at 155-06 Roosevelt Ave. in Flushing is Temporarily Closed while new heating/air conditioning equipment is being installed.  You are invited to use nearby community library locations, please visit queenslibrary.org/ql_findabranch for more information.
 
FDNY Fire and Safety Educational Program – On Wednesday, September 28th   each class at FCS will be visited by a New York City firefighter who will teach them about fire safety and prevention.  Then, on Friday, September 30th  grades 4-8 will have a chance to experience a simulated  fire emergency as they make their way through The FDNY Smokehouse which will be parked in front of the school starting at 10:00 AM . 
 
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM began today. Please welcome Mrs. Margalies Oselmo to the ASP.  She will be assisting Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Rodriguez.  Please be sure to pick up your child(ren) by 6:00 pm.

PIZZA FRIDAYS will begin this Friday, September 16th.  Your child must bring their money in on Wednesday September 14th in order to get pizza.  Each week, money is due on Wednesday or you may pay for several weeks in advance if you wish.   Price: slice $2.00, juice 50¢
 
UNIFORMS
All students in grade 1-8 should be in uniform. Each family should purchase a white button down shirt from the uniform company so the student has one for concerts and other special events.  Students may wear sneakers only during gym class. If you have not yet received your child’s uniform, please send a note of explanation to your child’s teacher.
 
PTFA NEWS
 
APPLEBEES FLAPJACK FUNDRAISER – Saturday, October 1st  from 8:00 – 10:00 in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center 
The class that sells the most tickets to the Applebee's Breakfast will receive an ice cream party. VOLUNTEER SERVERS ARE NEEDED.  If you are willing to help the school in this capacity, please indicate when ordering your tickets.  See the flyer that went home in the packet last Wednesday!
 
A GIFT BASKET SILENT AUCTION WILL BE HELD AT THE APPLEBEE'S FUNDRAISER  Tell your friends and family and come prepared to shop! Themed gift baskets you may love include: Cook's Delight, Pampered Pooch, Arts & Crafts, Movie Night, Harvest Home, and much more! All proceeds will go towards purchasing classroom materials for our new VEXIQ Robotics Program in 2nd and 3rd grade. We ask all students to please participate! Every student who contributes at least one item to their class's themed gift basket by Thursday will receive a NUT Card. Thank you for supporting FCS!
 
PTFA OFFICERS NEEDED - Two parent volunteers are needed to serve as secretary and treasurer of the PTFA.  These voluntary positions are open to parents who have been with our school for a minimum of one year.  They require only a few hours per month, yet they are invaluable to us as we seek to enrich your children’s experience at FCS. If you would like more information, please call the office.
 
Box Tops for Education  A parent volunteer is needed to organize and mail Box Tops for Education.  This can be done in the school office or from your home.  Box Tops are bundled and mailed twice each year; in December and March. Please call the office if you are willing to help out with this.
 
 
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL PACKET
(Wednesday, September 7th)
 
You will receive a packet on the first day of school.  This packet will contain memos and forms to fill out. Please look through everything carefully and return completed forms by the next day of school.  Especially important are the STUDENT RECORD CARDS. Please fill out the White or Blue information cards (in duplicate). Filling this out is very important.  All correspondence and phone calls, including School Emergency Closings, are generated from the information you provide.  Please fill out all information on both sides.
 
TUITION POLICY
 
Flushing Christian School Tuition Agreement will be sent home in your packet.  Please read this carefully as it contains important information.  Kindly sign and return the bottom portion to school the next day of school.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
 
The school day begins at 8:00AM.  The front door will only remain open until 8:00 AM.  If your child arrives after the doors have been closed they will need to get a late pass in the office.  Please do your best to arrive early.  Our doors open at 7:10 AM.
 
DISMISSAL TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS
 
K-3    2:20 PM               4-8    2:30 PM    
If you pick up your children and have students who are dismissed at different times, you may arrive at 2:30 and pick up both students at the same time.
*School Bus children:  If you child will not be taking the school bus, please call the office no later than 12 Noon to inform us.  Doing so will avoid confusion when placing children on the bus and insure the safety of your child.
